Washington considers lifting the freeze on the Mehdi Army is threatening democracy and order in Iraq

Washington has dismissed the threat cleric Moqtada al-Sadr to lift the freeze on the activities of the Mahdi Army, a threat to democracy and political system in Iraq, a renewed openness to any request from Baghdad to extend the stay of its troops after the end of this year. Spokesman for the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, David Ranz said that his country was committed to the implementation of the security agreement and it will hand over territory to the Iraqi government, according to Article 9 of the Agreement, but added that the withdrawal of troops does not mean the end of Washington's commitment to the security, independence and sovereignty of Iraq.
