Iraq’s Interior Ministry announced on Wednesday its readiness to take over the country’s internal security from Iraq’s Army.
The Security Ministry cannot succeed its mission without the cooperation of Iraqi citizens no matter how capable it is, it stressed.
During the ceremony graduation of a group from the public figures protection directorate attended by Alsumarianews, Deputy Interior Minister Eyden Khaled affirmed that “the ministry is ready to take over the country’s internal security from Iraq’s Army which has contributed to this challenging mission and made major sacrifices”.
“The security command should be handed to the Interior Ministry so that the Iraqi Army can protect the country’s national sovereignty and borders”, Khaled said.
“The Ministry’s new plan consists of engaging Iraqi citizens as partners in its security plans. No matter how capable it is, the Interior Ministry cannot succeed without the cooperation and participation of citizens in this difficult mission”, the deputy interior minister noted.
“The general directorate for public figures protection took up a difficult mission and managed to complete its formation an
d material components marking therefore a major role in protecting figures. The directorate is charged of protecting the Arab Summit in Baghdad”, he added.
The Interior Ministry had announced on August 16 its readiness to take over security in Baghdad and Iraqi cities from the Iraqi Army within six months if it is requested to do so.
