Baghdad and Erbil to discuss intl free market zone Sunday

Erbil, April 9 (AKnews) – A government delegation from Baghdad is expected to visit Erbil to discuss the opening a trades zone bordering Turkey, according to reports.

The delegation, which includes 18 advisers and managers from the relevant ministries, will visit Kurdistan Sunday to discuss a free market zone in Zakho town, near the Turkish border.

“To open the market zone, both the Iraqi and the regional governments will have to coordinate first before starting talks with the Turkey about it” said Fathi Mohammed, adviser of economic relations to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

“The delegation will hold talks with the relevant ministries”
The opening of the market near the Turkish border is expected to dramatically increase exchange volume with Turkey.

Currently, the trade exchange volume between Iraq and Turkey is US$7.5 billions.
