US House speaker in Iraq to meet officials: embassy

BAGHDAD - US House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner was in Baghdad on Saturday to meet senior Iraqi government officials, a US embassy spokesman told AFP.

“We can confirm that Speaker Boehner is in Iraq today, meeting with senior GOI (government of Iraq) officials,” embassy spokesman David Ranz said in an email.

Ranz declined to give further details on Boehner’s visit, did not specify who Boehner would meet or how long his trip would last, or whether he was travelling with any other members of Congress.
