Garmiyan, Jan.9 (AKnews)- The head of the human rights committee at the Kurdistan Regional parliament said Saturday the reason why the marriage loan bill was not ratified with a fixed amount was that the related bodies had not informed the Kurdistan ministry of finance and economy about the bill.
Over 10,000 signatures by youth from Kalar, 165 km northeast of Baghdad, and its surrounding areas were submitted last December to the Kurdish parliament to set the marriage loan at 5,000,000 Iraqi Dinars (IQD)- around 42,500 U.S. dollars. However, the bill was ratified without specifying the amount. The sum will be set annually according to the market price.
The statement by Salar Mahmoud was made at an open meeting in Kalar. The committee head rejected the reports that the parliament majority has rejected to fix the price.
“The reason is lack of coordination between the Kurdish finance and economy ministry and the related parliamentary committees over the bill,” he added.
Mahmoud encouraged the youth to “insist on their demand”, reiterating his committee will support their quest.
