Defense Ministry Candidates to be Submitted This Week Says MP

Saturday, March 12th 2011 4:12 PM
Baghdad, March 12 (AKnews) – A deputy from the Kurdistan Blocs Coalition (KBC) said on Saturday that the vote for the Defense Ministry candidates will be held this week ahead of the other two unallocated security ministries.
Fuad Masum, a leader in the KBC, told AKnews that Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki will sumbit the names of candidates for the defense ministry post to parliament this week.
Parliament held its 40th session last Thursday during which the candidates for the three security ministries were due to be submitted to the house for voting.

Further disagreements between the political blocs over some of the names put forward and the non-submittal of certain candidates’ CVs were apparently behind this latest postponement.

Maliki has been heading the Ministries of Defense, the Interior and National Security since parliament gave the vote of confidence to his cabinet line-up on December 21.
The three key ministries have remained unallocated due to ongoing disputes between the political blocs over the right to lead them.
