UN expresses concern over violations of human rights against demonstrators in Iraq

BAGHDAD (Iba) .. The representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Ad Melkert, the concern of the International Organization of the occurrence of several incidents involving violations of human rights and exercised the right of demonstrators
 
 
And Melkert said in a statement issued today that the violations involving the use of Iraqi security forces, power is excessive, which resulted in the deaths of a number of citizens and the wounding of others, in addition to restricting the freedom of media and displays some of the media organizations of the attack, as well as the exposure of citizens and journalists particular arrest and detention.
 
Melkert urged both the Government of Iraq and civil society, families and parents to ensure the protection of all children, after the reference to the concern of the United Nations as a result of exposure of children and adolescents at risk.
 
 
He appealed to the House of Representatives and the government must ensure to meet the legitimate demands of the people and the prosecution of anyone who is involved in the violation of human rights.
 
 
The statement noted that while Iraq is working to rebuild its economy, it also works to build democratic institutions to ensure a sustainable future in the interest of all segments of society. Although this process was not perfect, and there is no quick solutions, but the United Nations is fully committed to supporting the people and Government of Iraq in these difficult times.
 
 
He called on all Iraqi authorities that fully recognizes the importance of the participation of all Iraqi people in building a state of prosperity, stability and democracy in order to consolidate and strengthen the substantial progress that has been made recently.
 
 
He said the involvement of both the House and the government to initiate dialogue with civil society in order to respond to the demands and grievances expressed by the members of the Iraqi people, as well as the collective support provided by the Iraqi parties to improve access to basic services for Iraqis, is encouraging steps.
 
Melkert stressed the need for radical changes that will create an environment of stability and confidence. (End)
